Gears of War 15th Anniversary
It seems like only yesterday that Gears of War made its first appearance on the Xbox 360. It’s crazy to know that it’s been 15 years!
First released on November 7th, 2006, Gears of War eventually became one of the best-selling Xbox 360 games with a remastered “Ultimate Edition” for Xbox One back in 2016. Since then, several sequels have been released and remains one of the best series in our gaming culture! It is most well known for its third-person-based combat and features a wide range of diverse characters such as legendary war heroes, soldiers, outsiders, and other amazing warriors!
At face value, Gears of War seems like it will be just that: a man versus monster war with guns and chainsaws. However, if you look beneath the surface you’ll find subplots of civil war, climate change, social inequality, eugenics, and clean energy disputes. Set on the planet Sera, humanity searches for a new source of energy to survive while battling a war with intriguing, complex antagonists. Gears of War has fantastic combat encounter design, high quality navigation, and an atmosphere that immerses you into the game to experience the looming threats.
When Gears of War was released in 2006, it quickly rose to become one of Xbox’s most popular first party franchises. Since then, Gears of War has had great influence on trends in the modern gaming world because of itscompelling characters and immersive storytelling. From novels to action figures, comic books to boardgames – the Gears of War universe continues to expand towards the future.
